The core gameplay remains very similar to that of the main Bomberman series, but players benefit from 2 lives and can regain a lost life by defeating other players and picking up their life drop. In the final map, top players battle to survive as the battle area gradually reduces in size until there is only one bomber left. The game drops and power-up include special effect bombs, extra life and Louie eggs. In Battle 64 mode, the player gets dropped in one of 16 square grid map areas at random with 63 other players and must drop bombs, avoid blasts, pick-up power-ups, trap opponents and move through to other maps to survive the match as map areas close down with time.
